¿tú tenías DAC Chord o me equivoco?

1. Positive Feedback

Mark Pearson (Julio, 2013):

So how do the LS50s sound? In a word, stunning. I call these speakers the little "truth tellers" because that is exactly what they do. The midrange and highs are so pure you could be fooled into thinking you were listening to a pair of electrostatic speakers. The LS50s truly speak with a single voice. They also throw a very wide and deep soundstage where every instrument and singer is placed with precision upon the soundstage. Voices have to be heard to be believed and appreciated through these little gems.”

“I have been a proud owner of the Beatles BC-13 EMI Parlaphone LP collection for over 30 years (sometimes referred to as the Blue Box collection) and I can tell you that Beatles have never sounded better than when played through the LS50s. The voices of John, Paul, George, and Ringo just sound incredibly right. You also can quickly zero in on all of the studio tricks that were used by George Martin, especially with the very early LPs.”

“These tweeters are very sweet and delicate sounding while still retaining all of the dynamic characteristics that makes the upper partials of drums and cymbals sound so exciting and real. “

You can pay far more money than the cost of the KEF LS50 speakers, but you may not buy the quality of sound that these speakers are capable of delivering at anywhere near their price point including a suitable pair of stands. “

“Whether you are buying your first system or your last system, the LS50s are faithful to the music and they will shine a light on the upstream components. The better your source material and your preamp/amp or integrated amp are, the better the LS50s will sound. Even at the full retail price of $1500, these are an incredible bargain. Highly recommended.”

2. Stereophile

-John Atkinson (dic, 2012):

“It is a cliché to describe a minimonitor as "sounding larger than it looks," but that was the case with the LS50 once I'd optimized their setup.”

“the LS50's high frequencies sounded very clean, with no grain or steeliness. This is a high-quality tweeter.”

“I would go so far as to say that the LS50 is one of the finest speakers at reproducing female voices that I have heard—for less than what you can pay for a set of high-end interconnects!”

“Against the LS50 the Rogers sounded distinctly nasal-colored. There was more top-octave energy apparent than with the KEF, which added "air" rather than brightness, but also lent overcooked rock recordings a "spitty" edge. The LS50 sounded considerably more neutral than the vintage speakers in both the midrange and treble, with naturally recorded cymbals sounding less like textured white noise.”

“Classical orchestral, solo piano, and vocal recordings were better suited to the more neutrally balanced KEF, and rock to the B&W (CM5), with its more laid-back low treble and more extended low frequencies. On balance, I preferred the LS50.”

“It is rare to find a loudspeaker that offers this combination of clarity and neutrality. For KEF's LS50 Anniversary Model to do so for a penny under $1500/pair makes it even more remarkable. This thoroughbred both shows a clean pair of heels to the venerable LS3/5a and, within its limits of dynamic range and bass extension, will provide Class A sound for those with small rooms. Recommended. Highly.”

3. Stereophile

-Sam Tellig (mayo, 2014):

“I found the LS50's tonality spot-on, more neutral than sweet. Soundstaging and imaging were top-notch. Definition was superb, ranking with the very best speakers at any price. I haven't had such great sound in my listening room since the departure of Quad's ESL-2805 electrostatics.”

4. Stereophile

-Stephen Mejias (junio, 2014):

“LS50 loudspeaker ($1499.99/pair) was named Stereophile's Budget Product and Overall Component of the Year, marking the first time in 22 years of voting that any component had earned this strange double distinction. Consider the achievement: The former award is typically granted to products that provide outstanding value but may nevertheless exhibit some obvious, albeit carefully considered, compromise(s); the latter, loftier award is often won by cost-no-object, flagship designs that shun even the thought of compromise and inhabit only our wildest audiophile fantasies. It's unusual for an audio component to be both reasonably priced and unquestionably elite. The LS50 managed it.”

“Small and relatively affordable, the KEF LS50 stands proud among even the most magnificent company. In 13 years of working at Stereophile, I have not seen another component that offers such a radical combination of value and performance.”

“The first thing I noticed about the LS50's sound was the clarity with which it presented voices."

“The KEFs were far bolder, clearer, more musically explicit than any speakers I'd ever heard in my home, without exhibiting the slightest bit of unwarranted edge or aggression.

The kick drum suddenly emerged from nowhere, with just the right amount of impact and driving force. Lorde's voice was positioned suitably high and slightly forward in the mix, with eerily realistic presence, natural tone, and striking beauty. The imaging precision and soundstaging stability weren't the best I've heard—at demos by TAD, Vivid, Wilson Audio Specialties, and YG Acoustics—but were still remarkably good, and easily the best I've experienced at home.”

I got used to the KEF LS50s. But it wasn't until I replaced them with the Wharfedales that I really recognized and appreciated their brilliance…. the KEFs are in an altogether different league. With the LS50s in my system, there's just so much more to enjoy—more body, more beauty, more control, more music. “

5. The Absolute Sound

-Neil Gader (julio, 2013):

“Sonically the LS50 doesn’t suggest the lighter, faster, and edgier personality of the average compact with a five-incher for a driver. This is an essentially neutral monitor throughout the mid-range. But there’s also a prevailing sweet- ness, a harmonic saturation that lends it a dark, velvety overall character, and a bloom that is so pleasing that I began affectionately dubbing it the butterscotch sundae of small monitors.”

“When listening to a variety of symphonic music I noted image focus was excellent, as I’d expected from a coincident driver. But it’s not hyper-focused. It provides a more spacious, open, and, in my view, authentic representation of an orchestra. Yes, the LS50 has quick transient reflexes, but that is not what grabbed my attention. Rather, it was its bloom and tonal weight. Heavens to Betsy, this little speaker has guts.”

“The mid- and upper-treble range is smooth; the sibilance region is controlled— crisp and clean, but with compliance. As I listened to the Bryn Terfel and Renée Fleming duet on “Not While I’m Around” from Under the Stars [Decca], I felt the physical presence of these superb singers, their voices seamlessly expressed. “

one of the most all-around-satisfying little speakers I’ve reviewed in some time. Construction and execution are exemplary. It delivers the kind of performance that deserves to be on a Wheaties box. And there’s an incalculable coolness factor that makes it a breath of fresh air. The LS50 also answers the classic question, “Who says you can’t teach an old box new tricks?”

6. What Hi-fi? (oct,2012)

Best standmounter £400-£800, Awards 2013. Simply brilliant

“Given a little space to breathe and mounted on a pair of solid stands these monitors sound terrific. The first thing that strikes us is the quality of the bass performance.”

“Move up the frequency range and these KEFs continue to impress. Kate Bush’s vocals on 50 Words For Snow are as clear and articulate as you could wish for. These speakers communicate the energy and drive in a piece of music brilliantly.”

“Of course, the LS50’s innate transparency means that any flaws in the partnering kit will be apparent. But get it right and you have what is one of the best standmounters below £1000, and easily one of KEF’s most musical efforts in years.”

7. C-NET

The Audiophiliac's speaker of the year: The KEF LS50

“the LS50s projected a massive sound field. Spatial depth and resolution of fine detail were exceptionally good, so when I played Muddy Waters' "Folk Singer" LP I didn't just hear Muddy and his band, I heard them playing within the acoustic of the recording studio, so the music was more believably alive. The LS50 communicates music's subtle dynamic shifts with rare precision, and that may be one of the reasons why it sounds so lifelike”

It's one of the best small hi-fi speakers I've heard at any price.”

8. Inner Fidelity:

Steve Guttemberg (nov, 2012)

“…with this recording's uncompressed album played back at (near) realistic levels the sound just about bowled me over. The drums and tuba rhythm section was unstoppable, and soundstage focus was razor sharp. I was present at the Chesky Records sessions for this album, "Dreams of New Orleans," so when I heard the LS50s reproduce not only the sound of the players, but also the church's acoustic they were playing in I knew these speakers could get the quietest, low-level room sounds just right. The brass' tonality was spot-on, downright luscious when they played sweet and mellow, and the hard-hitting transients were all there when the spirit demanded it.”

“voice and presence … were fully realized over the LS50s, she was there, all there. This woman inhabits the tunes, she's really expressing the feelings and emotions of the songs' lyrics. The LS50s' imaging again and again surprised me, the stage was broad, deep and spacious.”

"The soundstage extended beyond the actual locations of the speakers, and that open quality made it easy to forget about the speakers as point sources, they were gone! “

“…bass was tighter and punchier than the Harbeth P3ESR speakers I reviewed here on Inner Fidelity a few months ago. The clarity down there was superb, but it's not a forgiving speaker, feed the LS50s harsh and gritty recordings and they're going to sound harsh and gritty.”

“The players' pulse was so damn solid and loose at the same time it was impossible to sit still in my chair, the LS50 communicates rhythm and pace with rare skill.”

“Spatial density was extraordinary, and the LS50 decoded the intricacies with ease. The speakers sounded great at low, moderate and loud levels. I rarely crank the volume up, but the LS50s' freewheeling dynamics encouraged higher than average listening levels.”

The LS50 is the best desktop speaker I've heard at home.”

9. Sound & Vision

S&V Team

“Rarely has a compact mini-monitor of this size sounded so amazingly good like the LS50 from KEF.”

“PLUS: Glorious sound / Impeccable build and finish / Should cost a lot more.

MINUS: Don´t bother with the LS50 if the rest of your equipment isn´t up to snuff…”

“Like very few other speakers, the LS50 will be able to exactly and unequivocally make clear whether the sound engineer has done a good job in the studio or not. If the singer is slightly off center, it is the work of the sound engineer – the compact KEF LS50 hides no details. Toed-in and aligned straight at the listener, it gave us an extremely clean and focused center stage in our listening room.”

“The resolution of depth and width is extraordinary, voices sound natural and have exactly the right size and volume. Despite its small dimensions, the LS50 fills the listening room very convincingly with music. KEF's monitor speaker have an amazing stability to the sound and certainly has floorstander qualities - for a compact speaker with a 5.25 inch driver, this is more than remarkable. “

“KEF monitors inspire with their plasticity, spatial acuity and their firm and clean sound image with excellent detail resolution. A real loudspeaker super star which time after time can give you spine-tingling experiences, particularly with vocal performances. KEF LS50 pairs accuracy with enthusiasm - they are the ideal speakers to make any type of music into an event.”

“…a visually gorgeous speaker with equally glorious sound. Rarely has a compact mini-monitor of this size sounded so amazingly good like these speakers from KEF. And at this price - it´s and absolute recommendation!”

10. SoundStageHifi

Doug Schneider (Abril 2013)

My eyes opened wide, my mouth fell open, and my hands were immediately drawn to the speaker cables, to hook up the LS50s to a far less powerful, lower-cost amp: the Eximus S1 (125Wpc into 8 ohms, $2500). I wanted to find out if the unbelievably full, rich sound I was hearing had mostly to do with the Simaudio amp, or if I could replicate it with something that a $1500/pair minimonitor might actually be used with in the real world. Moments later, I had the answer: I could.”

“Part of their big sound had to do with how the LS50 projected soundwaves unencumbered by their cabinets, to lay out an enormous soundstage with recording after recording. They “disappeared” completely into those vast soundstages, giving no aural hint of their actual physical locations.”

“But what made the LS50 sound downright spectacular was its exceptional voicing throughout the audioband. It made this big-sounding little speaker sound so natural and real that I’m pretty sure it could give a number of much costlier speakers, stand-mounted and floorstanding, grief.”

“Buena Vista Social Club Presents Omara Portuondo (16/44.1 FLAC, Nonesuch) exploded into my room with a stage that went from here to there, and Portuondo’s voice was placed in the center of it in an extraordinarily lifelike way: tonally accurate, vividly positioned, richly textured, totally tangible, and completely authentic.”

“The LS50s’ re-creation of piano was shocking -- many large speakers have trouble doing this in a way that sounds wholly natural, and most small ones don’t stand a chance -- they often sound tinkly, like a child’s toy piano. The LS50s made Ola Gjeillo’s piano-based Stone Rose (16/44.1 FLAC, 2L) sound thundering and glorious in a way I thought no small speaker could ever. And if I had to describe in a single word the LS50s’ reproduction of Norika Ogawa’s recording of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas 10-12 (24/96 FLAC, BIS/eClassical.com), that word would be ‘pure’. Every keystroke was presented with a crystalline clarity that wasn’t only uncanny for the LS50s’ price, but for multiples of it.”

“The LS50’s sound, irrespective of price, was outstanding in my room: a wide-open soundfield; razor-sharp imaging; voluminous bass; soaring, clean highs; and a midband as natural as it was clear. Holy moly, this speaker sounded good -- and at a ridiculously low price.

The LS50 is nothing short of a masterpiece of a minimonitor, priced so that anyone serious about audio can buy a pair -- and probably should, if only to know how great a small speaker can be.”

11. Darko Audio

John Darko

“In case you’re in any doubt (and as good as the X300A are) the LS50 outclass their powered siblings in almost every respect. The LS50 are warmer in the midrange, more inviting and enveloping and – with the right amplifier attached – FAR more dynamic. They sound simultaneously punctilious and suave. It’s the difference between a Jack + coke and a modestly priced single malt. Both can get you ripped but the latter takes one’s palette through more complex flavours."

“Perhaps the (wo)men in white coats at KEF’s development lab in Kent instead asked themselves: what might the LS3/5a sound like today?”

“Aside from Harbeth’s P3ESR, Spendor’s SA1 – a sealed design – are the least rock n roll in the aforelisted boxes and yet I’ve consistently name-checked them as my favourite in the sub-$3k standmount category because of their talents with imaging, tone and transparency (particularly with voices). This pick of the pops now shifts to KEF’s 50th birthday badboys.”

“The LS50’s top-end is as smooth as that of the Spendor SA1 but that’s pretty much where the similarities end. The LS50 release more upper-frequency air than the SA1 and the ATC SCM11 but not as much as the ProAc TR8 (which sizzles) or PMC DB1i (which sparkles). The rear-ported KEF isn’t transmission line like the DB1i but bass goes considerably deeper than even the PMC. Bass integration is also better on the KEF.”

“Nothing images like a ProAc? The LS50 do – that’s ‘Uni-Q’ coaxial magic at work. Music emanates from a space between and behind the speakers, seemingly physically disconnected from the boxes spinning the aural illusion.”

“Excitement and dynamics are more up in yr grill with the LS50 than the Spendor SA1 – they present closer to the PMC DB1i’s “where’s the party?” vibe without giving up anything in the midrange transparency department. There’s also some of the tonal fatness that I enjoy in the ATC SCM 11. Good news too on the mid bass hump front: on the LS50 there isn’t one."

“In short: KEF have designed the ultimate all-rounder, go-anywhere-do-anything standmount loudspeaker.”

12. Audio Placebo

AudioPlacebo staff (2019)

“…there’s no doubt that KEF LS50 is a fantastic monitor speaker. It’s capable of bringing that ‘soundstage feel’ straight to your living room. Buying a KEF LS50 bookshelf speakers would mean taking your listening experience to a whole new level… these speakers are gonna show you a new world of audio that you never knew existed. They’re gonna provide you with super-rich sound, a kind that you probably haven’t have the pleasure to hear before”

“The bass is deep and powerful, which is rather surprising considering that the sound is coming from such a small set of speakers. But, the size apparently does not matter. At least in the case of KEF LS50, which are capable of creating bone-shaking bass, which still does not steal the show entirely. Instead, it keeps everything in balance. And that means that the mids and highs also sound perfect. The vocals are incredibly accurate, without absolutely no distortions.”

Fantastic sound – If you’ve used only budget speakers so far, you’re gonna be shocked by the quality of sound created by KEF LS50. The performances of these bookshelf speakers are fantastic, regardless of the frequency. And considering their pretty small size, it’s really shocking that the bass they create is so impressive.”

“Of course, as you’ve probably figured out already, our absolute favorite is KEF LS50. It has everything you may ask from bookshelf speakers.”

“When it comes to KEF LS50, it’s not just about the longevity. It’s actually more about the sound quality these speakers can produce. You can be sure that no cheap bookshelf speakers can provide you with such high audio performances as KEF LS50!”

“So, if the music plays an important role in your life, why not treat yourself with a pair of bookshelf speakers that will take you to audio heaven?”

(About LS50)

Really, really informal listening tests
I had just listened to the Harbeth M30 speakers so I thought I swap the two and listen to the same tracks. Well, this (LS50) was a let down. There was no bass to speak of. Turning up the volume resulted in distortion as I could visibly see the little woofer trying to keep up. Definitely not a good choice for a large space. A subwoofer with proper EQ is well advised. Overall, I could not get excited over the sound I was getting.

Parece que nuestro amigo Amir y yo escuchamos igual. LS50 = puro hype, poco sonido....:zippytanax:
